Menopause – Can CBD make this stage of life easier?

Menopause is a phase of life, not a disease. With increasing age, the production of the female sex hormones progesterone and estrogen decreases. Menopause – as the last period is called – begins in half of all women at around age 52. However, the range is wide. For some women, periods end at age 45 or earlier, while others do not experience menopause until their mid-50s. It usually takes several more years before the hormonal transition is complete. During this time of upheaval, the body undergoes major hormonal changes. Whether and how severely women suffer from symptoms during menopause varies greatly from person to person. About a third cope well with it and have no or hardly any problems. Many, however, have to struggle with physical complaints on the one hand, and on the other hand our society, which is characterized by youth mania, makes life difficult for them.

In order to alleviate the discomfort, women are looking for herbal remedies and more and more often you can read about CBD in this context. CBD cannot stop menopause, but it can possibly alleviate menopausal symptoms and have a regulating effect on hormone balance. By interacting with our body’s own ECS (endocannabinoid system), CBD is said to be able to influence estrogen levels. This, in turn, may help regulate hormone balance, making menopause a more pleasant experience.

How can CBD help with the typical symptoms of menopause?

Hot flashes

Hot flashes during menopause are usually caused by hormonal changes. Because estrogen levels drop, the body releases more stress hormones (such as adrenaline). The blood vessels dilate, causing more blood to flow from inside the body to below the skin’s surface. The consequences are hot flashes with uncontrollable sweating.

On the one hand, the body secretes cannabinoids to regulate estrogen levels, on the other hand, this also reduces the excessive release of stress hormones. CBD can therefore have a relaxing effect, making it easier to keep a “cool head”.

Sleep disorders

Very many women suffer from sleep disorders during menopause. This affects both their well-being and their performance. Other consequences can include mood swings and headaches. Primarily, the changed hormonal balance plays a role. CBD is said to have an effect on the immune system and the central nervous system and can positively influence the symptoms of sleep disorders. The body can relax, which in turn improves sleep quality and alleviates depressive moods. The body and mind can recover better and you wake up rested the next morning.

Mood swings

The main cause of mood swings during menopause is also the falling estrogen level. The hormone controls not only fertility, but also the release of serotonin, a neurotransmitter that ensures our mental balance and good mood.

Researchers assume that CBD promotes the release of serotonin (happiness hormone) via receptors in the body’s ECS. This can improve overall well-being. This in turn results in inner balance, contentment and better mood.

Headaches and migraines

Hormone fluctuations may also be the trigger why some menopausal women suffer from increased headaches and migraines, as hormones affect serotonin receptors. CBD is said to be able to positively change serotonin levels and dilate the constricted blood vessels in the brain. Thus, discomfort could be reduced in this area as well.

Studies have shown that CBD oils can regulate hormonal balance and generally calm, harmonize and relax, so that the mood brightens again and the overall condition becomes more balanced. Quite gently and naturally, without medicinal side effects, menopausal symptoms can be alleviated, thus increasing well-being.
